The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself is Your Own Fitness & Wellness

Happy Holidays to you and your family!! I hope that they are the best ever for you! Take some time to look for the intangibles – the really good stuff!

Here’s this message to you in video form!

Forgive me please, I have been busy the past few weeks in that I traveled up to Pennsylvania to visit with my mom who is in a skilled nursing facility and had a lot to deal with in doing that! I’m sure you can relate that we can’t always do ALL of the things we want to – I’ve wanted to make this message for sometime, and I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to do it and to share it with you!

Here’s a few key points from the message:

  1. The best gift you can give yourself and those around you is: your own personal health and wellness.
    1. Example of one of my client’s WHY
    2. You cannot take care of those you love and care about if you don’t love and care for yourself first
  2. Self-image.
    1. Thoughts from my mom and her friend and all women/men talking bad about themselves
  3. Let’s talk New Year’s Resolutions.
    1. Instead of forcing yourself into some kind of “juice cleanse” or fancy detox diet, or trying some other kind of fad diet or workout routine where you go every single day and then burn out after 5 days .. How about a sustainable, enjoyable, TRUE lifestyle change that works for YOU?
    2. The LONG HAUL.
    3. NOT microwave mentality

I mention in the video my 6-week program to help you create your own true, sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle changes. I’d love to talk with you about it and share more of the details with you if you are interested! Reach out to me here (reply to this message) and I’ll share them with you! Let’s make 2018 the best and most intentional year yet!

Blessings to you and your family,

A Bit of my Story – How Fitness Changed my Life and my Lifestyle

In this video, I tell a bit about my background and my journey from not playing any sports in school, to getting my first gym membership (and WHY) and my journey ever since.

I believe our stories are powerful: not only where we have been, and where we are, but maybe even more importantly – where we want to go from here!

Movement, activity, and exercise affects all areas of our lives: our creativity, our productivity, we feel better, we are more present and aware in the moment and within relationships with our family, friends, and coworkers. It enhances so many areas of life and helps to create more energy for us to be able to do all of the other things that we want and need to do on a daily basis! Movement becomes easier and more comfortable once we are moving.

As a holistic personal trainer, I work with anyone from the beginner to the seasoned athlete. Reach out to me and let me know where you want to go and where you are today and let’s make a plan together to get you there!

Take a look around the rest of the website here! Take a look at my blog posts that I’ve written and the testimonials my clients have written and shared!

You have the God-given right to creative power within you to create what you really want.
What is wellness to YOU? 🙂

I look forward to connecting with you!

Holiday Gifts that Keep on Giving

Have you had a family member or friend who complains of their frustration with weight loss or the ability to sustain a healthy lifestyle?

I’ve created a solution for just that. Remember my email from just a few days ago? I’ve launched a holiday program that is 6 weeks long and meant to teach just that – sustainable lifestyle changes that are enjoyable (thus more sustainable, as well!).

I created the program to help you through the holidays (because many, many people find it difficult to stay active and healthy during the holiday season). Well .. I wanted to let you know that you can also GIFT this program to your loved ones that really would benefit from it.

In my opinion, it is one of the best gifts that you can give, because it keeps on giving! Creating sustainable lifestyle changes that people enjoy .. now THAT is a gift to receive!

Do you have a relative or friend that would benefit from receiving this gift this holiday season? Please reach out to me. I am offering different types of packages and we can collaborate on the specific one for your friend or loved one. This means that the prices vary. I’d love to chat with you about it! Reply to this email and we can set up a time to catch up quickly and discuss the options available!

Staying Active During the Holidays

I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is a busy time of the year for most of us, right?

For many people, finding the time to stay active and healthy is difficult during the holidays. Do y’all know what I am talking about? Do you experience this, too?

Most of us are busy with family and friend traditions, holiday shopping, and other social engagements. How can you find the time to still take care of yourself during a time like this?

Let’s explore how you can more easily (and realistically) stay active and still maintain or increase your health, fitness, and wellness during the holiday season:

–       30 min of exercise 3x/week

–       Eating SOMETHING green every day

The holidays aren’t necessarily MORE busy than the rest of the year, although they can feel like it. Yes, social obligations can add to our calendar, but is it REALLY that much busier?

Finally, if we have stated that health is a value that is important to us, does it really matter the time of the year or the other obligations that we have to meet? In my experience, it’s ALWAYS possible to find an “out” – a reason for not doing something (can be anything, but, we’re talking about your health and fitness, here).

I say all of this to say – if your health and fitness is of value to you, there IS a way to maintain (and even increase it) this time of the year. And, if you allow all of the other commitments in your life to come before your personal care of yourself right now, it’s that much harder to change that habit even after the new year. There are ALWAYS events to attend and other things to attend to. But if you start now, even in a more difficult time to do so, your habits will be that much stronger to take you into and through 2018 strong.

Balance is necessary. Still finding time for your own personal health, fitness, and wellness is possible. It doesn’t have to be excessive. Only consistent.

Why not start now?

Reach out to me today to find out more about the 6-week holiday program I am offering. It includes in-studio workout sessions, a full exercise plan catered to your fitness level, your life, and your goals, nutrition guidance, as well as full accountability to the goals that we set together! It may be a great fit for you, or for a loved one! Consider giving it as a gift! (A gift that will keep on giving!)

Nutrition – How to Reduce Stress and Inflammation with Cortisol-Fighting Foods

I’ve had many clients come to me frustrated because they have a health/fitness/wellness goal but then there’s a candy bowl at work or they’re on the go and feel forced to just grab something that is comforting and quick but it’s not supporting their goals.

Have you faced this challenge yourself? Do you ever find that you want to grab junk, chocolate, or something that is readily available? How do you eat when you’re stressed out? Does that support your overall health, fitness, and wellness goals?

I like to explore and ask the question of WHY – why is it that in that moment you decided to eat the candy or grab the food that is not ultimately supporting your goals? Was it for comfort? Was it to battle stress?

If the cause is comfort in the moment, I take a functional approach to helping change habits around how we respond to stress and/or comfort-seeking in foods. Here’s some great info on stress-reducing (cortisol-fighting), anti-inflammatory foods:

  • – Great info on how to reduce stress with foods, exercise, herbs, and other methods like acupuncture, nature/outdoors, breathing, essential oils, and sleep.. (these are alternatives to emotional eating/comfort eating)
  • – “10 Best Foods to Eat for Stress” published by Mercola. A good fermented “food,” or drink, rather, would be kombucha – have you had it? (It’s quite tasty and I find it deliciously satisfying to drink J); blueberries, pistachios, seeds, avocado; then it also goes into why sugar, gluten, and processed foods don’t help with stress, which, of course we knew, but it’s interesting to understand more deeply and specifically why!

What has been your experience? Do you have a further question about this? Please share and let’s have a conversation! And if you’re curious to explore how I could help you personally, please reach out to me. As a holistic personal trainer, I’m here to help you to work with your life variables to create sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle change that supports the health, fitness, and overall wellness you desire! Both email and phone are great –, 804-367-3589.

Fitness – It Doesn’t Have to Be Excessive

Fitness: It doesn’t have to be excessive, only consistent

  1. My example when I began working out
    1. Too much too fast
    2. Even with running, injury
      1. Value of a personal coach
    3. Better for time management
      1. Who has 1.5 hours 7 days a week?
    4. Feels better and you can rest easy knowing you did what you needed to (value of a personal coach and accountability to stick to the plan – not more, and not less)

What I Learned from my Solo Trip to Costa Rica

Traveling to Costa Rica SOLO last year was incredible. I learned so much about myself and my own personal likes and preferences. I gained so much more confidence in my own self. I learned so much about the universality of humanity. How wonderful to have seen friends that moved there just a year or so before (Prince and Nadine! ❤️), and to stay at a warm, welcoming, wonderful yoga retreat, Ser La Luz (Be the Light – how appropriate!) (Ed and RevMichael Carbone – can I call it an OASIS?? 😊).

I gained great strength in my own self backpacking and traveling through different mountain towns, seeing coffee farms, meeting new people with wonderful hospitality along the way, sharpening my Spanish language skills (only once frustrating, haha..), making friends, trying new things, hiking volcanoes, taking my first surfing lessons and catching my first waves.

I was aware of the “risks of traveling alone” – I read up on what I needed before embarking on this trip. I understand that unpleasant things happen (anywhere). BUT – in my experience, everyone I met was helpful and wonderful and welcoming and LOVED what I was doing.

It was a wonderful way to spend my 28th birthday. This year, for my 29th, I am taking a week off to recalibrate myself: I am looking forward to friend time (a masquerade dinner & dancing tomorrow night!) as well as time at home and alone to be quiet and still, and thoughtful.

I’m looking forward to the next adventure! But for now .. some self-care, and some good rest.
